What to Expect During Your 3D Areola Tattoo Experience
Your appointment is designed to feel private, collaborative, and unhurried. We’ll walk through each step together so you know exactly what to expect.
-
Private Consultation
We’ll talk about your surgery, healing, goals, preferences, and any reference photos you’d like to share. Reference photos can be what your areola used to look like or what you would like your new areola to look like.
-
Design & Placement
We’ll choose the size, shape, position, and overall look together before tattooing begins.
-
Custom Color Matching
Pigments are blended specifically for your skin tone and desired result. If you have one natural areola remaining, it can be used as a reference.
-
3D Tattooing
Shading, highlights, color variation, and detail are layered to create realistic depth and dimension.
-
Healing & Follow-Up
The tattooed area is considered an open wound immediately after the procedure, so it’s important to keep it clean, protected, and follow all aftercare instructions carefully. The color will initially appear darker and more saturated, then gradually soften as the skin heals over the next 2–3 weeks. Once healed, we can evaluate whether a color boost or additional detailing is needed. For mastectomy areola reconstruction, 2–3 sessions are typically needed because of my layering technique and the way reconstructed skin may heal and retain pigment.
A Special Commitment to Breast Cancer Survivors
3D areola reconstruction is offered complimentary to breast cancer survivors as part of my commitment to helping support the final stages of reconstruction.
For clients seeking areola tattooing after breast reduction, lift, cosmetic surgery, or other procedures, this service is also available at regular pricing.
Why Choose Tat2ed Beauty?
Meet Emily Rocha
Before becoming a tattoo artist, I worked in the medical field, so I understand that breast cancer treatment and reconstruction are not elective choices. They are medical experiences women are forced to navigate, often involving surgery, scarring, changes to their bodies, and a long recovery process.
I also understand that 3D areola tattooing may be classified by some insurance plans as cosmetic, which can leave survivors responsible for the cost of something that may feel like an important final step in reconstruction. That’s why I offer 3D areola reconstruction complimentary to breast cancer survivors. I want this part of the process to feel supportive, not like one more expense after everything they’ve already been through.
For clients seeking areola tattooing after breast reduction, lift, cosmetic surgery, or other elective procedures, this service is available at regular pricing with the same level of care, privacy, and attention to detail.

FAQs
1 / Can you tattoo over scar tissue?
Yes, we can. We just have to make sure it's fully healed. Ink sometimes will heal different over scar tissue.
2 / Does it hurt?
Every clients sensitivity varies. I will apply topical numbing to make the process more comfortable.
3 / How long does 1 session take?
Sessions can be 2-3 hours initially and then 1 hour for 2nd session.
4 / Will tattoo damage my implant?
Tattooing is performed within the superficial layers of the skin and does not reach the depth of a breast implant
5/ How long after my surgery can I get tattooed?
You should wait at least 3 to 12 months after your last surgery for medical nipple/3D tattoos, and 1 to 2 years for large decorative chest tattoos after a mastectomy.
